The History of Wedding Cakes

The concept behind this piece was to convey how the design of the wedding cake has developed over the years.  I decided to give a brief history of the wedding cake then follow it by explaining how the design has changed and how big the wedding cake business has become.
I conveyed my concept I chose to use two different wedding cakes. The black and white one symbolizing the traditional wedding cake.  Then I layered the Topsy Turvy cake on top of that to symbolize how far wedding cakes have come.  Also this technique created depth within the design.  I used a photo for the black and white cake and created the sky blue cake in photoshop as a illustration.  Then I tilted the cake, giving the design more movement.  After that I placed my information in outlined black and white boxes, which followed the color scheme.  I centered the larger white box in order to give the title more focus.  Overall the design in my mind was successful and met the required criteria.  It was not only decorative, but informational.
Although I was happy with my overall design I did have problems.  Making the cake look like cake was my main problem.  From the comprehensive my cakes came a long way.  I gave a more rounded look and added decoration to the black and sky blue cake.  Another issue was text placement.  In the end it's not bad, but I wish I had given more space around the text in the box.  One other error was mounting the image to black foam core.  I tried double sided tape and found it does not hold up at all, due to the size of the project.  I ended up getting it mounted by the guys who printed my project(Beyond the Print in Vestal).
In the end I was pleased with my project.  I think that I learned a lot from my mistakes with mounting to foam core and using text in a project.   I learn from these mistakes and instill the lessons learned into the next project to help me improve.
